My last, really big project this year is the “Meadowland Quilt” by Meghan Buchanan “Then Came June”. The pattern for the quilt can be purchase on her website www.thencamejune.com for example. My quilt is provided for a double bed and a size of 80″ x 96″ (2,03 m x 2,44 m) . For this quilt the choise of fabrics was easy for me: I decided for the fabrics “Portsmouth” designed by Moda Fabrics, and a matching cream-colored uni-fabric.

Although the collection consists of 36 fabrics, I'll only use 15 fabrics. For my quilt I have to cut and sew the block described in the pattern 30 times. The pattern is very clearly arranged. Each step is described in detail. So you can not go wrong. Due to the size and simplicity of the block, the fabrics are tailored quickly: Contrary to the instructions I cut first 2 stripes having a width of 2 1/2″ to, afterwards a strip having 4 7/8″ width. Now turn the remaining fabric by 90 ° and the 9 1/4″ cut square, from the rest still 4 7/8″ square. Divide the stripes into the given squares and rectangles. The actual “job” starts now: All blocks must be sorted by color…

Let's start with the first block!

According to the pattern, the Flying Geeses are sewn with the No-Waste-Method first:

The four Flying Geeses are complete. A Background-Square is sewn on the right and on the left on two of them. For my quilt I´ve 150 of these squares.

Now the center of the block is sewn. First the individual strips…

… , then sew everything together.

join now even with the Flying Geeses….

… and There you go, this is what the finished block looks like!

And so the back…

Iron the finished block properly and …

… sew another 29 more! Well then, let´s fly the geeses!
