How UFO's just disappear
(This post includes unpaid advertising)
For us quilters the matter is obvious: There are UFO's. No, no floating objects. For us, these are simply “unfinished objects”, unfertige Objekte. We often work on several projects: If we cut for a project just the substances cope, we finished the top of an other project. And another one is already stapled for quilting. Yes, exactly, and we already have the next idea in mind. And it happens , that such a UFO simply stays, is forgotten, disappears in the closet. According to the motto: “You are the next, but not now!”
Of course, I also have to fight with this problem. At the end of last year I sewed a quilt. Since I call a Bernina 880, which has a stitch regulator, my own, I had started to quilt, this quilt under the sewing machine. That went quite well. However, after the third block, I realized, that of the finished quilt size of 2.10m x 2.10m (83″x83″will have). It became more and more difficult… When the fourth block was finished, my shoulders needed a break. I worked on it again and again, but at some point the quilt stopped…
But right now was the time. Not only, because there is now a Longarm in my sewing room. I was exited to see, if I could get the quilt clamped. And how big big the difference between will be between quilting on the sewing machine and under the Longarm.
Already when clamping on the longarm I noticed, that the quilt in the finished blocks has slightly contracted (When quilting, underneath of the sewing machine, the three layers are loosely under the needle). Clamping was not a problem. When quilting, I had to swipe the top smoothly in some places. However, the result is impressive. There is hardly any difference to be seen. My quilt seams with a sewing machine are not as exact as with the Longarm, but you don´t have to look so closely…
After a short time the remaining blocks were quilted. And the binding sewn. Since the quilt had been in the closet for a while before, I washed it right away.
The result is impressive!
Another colorful summer quilt!
