A different weight ceiling (Part 2 )
Now it the time to fill up the hexagons. The total weight of the blanket 10% should be 10% of the body weight of the future owner. In my case, I 3000 want to achieve a weight of 3000 grams (approx. 6.61 lbs). I divide that number through the number of hexagons, while the hexagons, that I shorten in the processes, only receive half of the filling.
Next, I close the opening in the area of the stitching .
Using the Edgestitch Foot and the decorative stitch 603 ,I combine the individual hexagons .
The carapace of the turtle starts to come together .
Now, the rest of the hexagons are added to the carapace, following the design template . To avoid handling the complete weight over the sewing machine , I work in small steps. This means, I sew. 4 to 6 hexagons (shortened, if necessary) together . Before adding them to the main body.
To shorten the edge of the blanket, I first mark the border area with a line . I carefully spread the glasses pearls away from my working area, before I start to sew . That way, I make sure that the glass beads neither fall out after cutting the fabric nor damage the machine while sewing . Then I quilt with an overlock seam along the marking (the seam is to the left of the marker.). The stitch is located on the left side of the marking.
The top is ready!
Using adhesive spray, I combine the backside fabric with the backside of the top . Knowingly, I avoid the use of any needles , since the glass sand is very fine , and I don´t want any open spots around the puncture areas . Now begins the strenuous part of the project . I unite the top layer of the weight blanket with the backside using a straight stitch. An even honeycomb structure develops on the backside of the blanket .
Afterwards, Iapply acommon binding to the blanket .
What can I say? The ceiling feels great at! When I first poured the sand into every single hexagon, I was a bit sceptical , how the beads will spread. Turns out, that this concern was not necessary .
Now is time ..., to wait for the opinion ... , of the young man, who is the recipient of this blanket ....
