For many weeks we had eye contact. Daily. Every time, when I came into my sewing room, I saw the Fat Quater bundle from Moda Fabrics, French General “Long live France”. Exactly my colors! A wine red in combination with different shades of blue, and beige.

But somehow I needed an idea, from which a quilt could arise . Until I found one in the "depths" of the Internet. Like many American fabric manufacturers, Robert Kaufmann also has an extensive collection of patterns (sewing instructions). There I found (www.robertkaufman.com/quilting/quilts_patterns/rose_garden_3172/) a pattern by Ariga Mahmoudlou. (You can download the pattern there for free). The basic pattern of the various blocks matches perfectly with my materials. I will enlarge the distance between the blocks and restrict mysel to only one edge strip. As background material, I´ve gone for a very bright, cream-colored fabric.

And then it started! To cut, cut, cut.

From all 3″- Squares in combination with the backround fabric, HSTs were created. Sew, cut, iron…….

After that, 336 Halfs-Square Triangels (HSTs) on my cutting mat, and 96 rectangles and 48 squares of background fabric.

According to the pattern, I assembled each block on a smaller cutting mat. Now the individual pieces of fabric were sewn together to a series. Following this, the ranks to a block.

The whole process 8 times…..then each block type is present three times.

Between the individual blocks I placed a 2,5 ” wide stripe of cloth from the background fabric. A burgundy coloureed unistripe underlines the edge of the Top.

Et voila! The top is ready!

I've ever quite smoothly "thrown" it over the Longarm “. Smoothly”. Because now the nicest part of the work is coming! Quilting.
